Charlton Strickland
Charlton Strickland is sure he was born with a set of building tools holstered to his hips. His earliest childhood memories invariably included a tool - paintbrush, screwdriver, hammer, saw, you name it - in his hands. Not surprising, having been born into an extended family of enthusiastic builders and craftsmen. You could say building sites were his playground.
While other children were learning to negotiate the monkey bars, Charlton was perfecting the skills of the trade. At 17, he took on his first refurbishment project - a hairdressing salon in the Midlands. This success led to more work in both the commercial and residential space, and he began to earn a reputation for delivering quality completions on schedule and on budget - a rarity in the building industry.
So began his passion for taking what’s old and tired, and turning them into beautiful spaces in which to live and work.
He doesn't believe in cookie-cutter solutions. The consummate playmaker, he taps on his extensive, tried-and-tested network of creatives, tradesmen, regulators, negotiators and researchers to identify the best fit of skills and personalities for every single project.
Charlton takes things personally. He approaches each project - whether it is with his developer or contractor hat on - as if it was his own - his own investment, his own risk, his own reward, his own home. The buck always stops with him.
And that, really, is how he likes it.
